Abstract: The place of agriculture in Turkey's economy is decreasing proportionally. However, the agriculture sector takes the lead when it is considered in Adıyaman scale. One of the important features of the sector is having low living standard due to insufficient income. In addition to supporting policies, increasing the income of agriculture part, production of the alternative products is emphasized. In this context, the potential of Adıyaman’s medical, aromatic and spice plant production is thought to be solution to this insufficient income. In this study, the cost and profitability of donut and traditional agriculture plants’ (wheat, barley, chickpeas, lentils and sesame seeds) cost and profitability have been compared. For this purpose, 3 x 2.4 m in size with three replications, 40 cm between the rows were formed as plotsin Kahta Vocational School’s application and trial area in the growing seasons of 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. Depending on the rainfall situation, in November, seedlings were planted to be 1.7 kg seedlings per plot. Plant’s emergences were observed within 27-30 days after sowing. In this experiment, harvests were made in the first week of June in the first year; and it was made in the last week of following year. By using seed yield obtained from the plots, average seed yield for per decare was calculated. According to this, the average yield of the first year was 75.50 kg/daand 68.75 kg/dafor the second year. In this study, the 2016 production year data such as input costs and average yield values that are obtained from Adıyaman Provincial Directorate of Food, Agriculture and Livestock and Kahta District Directorate. The rate of profitability of blackcuminwas determined as 2.34 %. According to this result, the profitability rate of black cuminis higher than wheat, barley, chickpeas, lentils and sesame seeds, which are cultivated in Adıyaman conditions. It is also concluded that this plant can increase the income and may be included in current production pattern of the country.
