Abstract:
This paper presents a two-fold approach for empowering farmers to build their resilience in the face of adversity. The first approach is the practice of sense-making by constructing positive narratives around adversity. The second approach is a series of resilience strategies and enabling techniques that farmers can use to proactively build their personal capacity to thrive in the face of adversity. The paper draws on five case studies of New Zealand farmers. The authors identified strategies and techniques that the farmers (case study participants) employed to navigate and grow through adversity.
