Abstract:
Little Information is known about the consumption of fishery products although their increasing share in the household expenditure on food and their importance as a source of the energy supply in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to analyze various issues associated with the consumption of the fishery products and thus provide information necessary to establish a stabilization policy on the market for them. For these purposes, we first examine factors affecting the consumption of the fishery products such as their nutritional characteristics, consumers' attitude about them, and liberalization of the market for them; second, we look at features in the trend of consumption by fishery product item; and third, we analyze determinants of the household expenditure on the fishery products using the Household Income and Expenditure Survey data. Finally, we suggest recommendations for expanding the consumption of the fishery products.
