Journal of Rural Development/Nongchon-Gyeongje, 2006, vol. 29, issue 01

Abstract: This study was to identify the variables to explain the successful farm readiness and settling of new farmers. For the purpose, this study carried out survey of 273 prospective farmers and 107 beginning farmers from students and graduates of Yeoju Agricultural Management College and National Refarming Movement Office(jeonguk-gwinongundong- bonbu). Survey analysis indicated the following. While the future willingness of farming engagement of prospective farmers depended on farming attitude, age, and agricultural education experience, the farming readiness depended on agricultural education experience, farming counselor, and the supports of whom they know. The successful farming of beginning farmers relied on agricultural education experience, farm succession, rural area birth, farming motive, farming career, farm birth, farming products, farming place, age, and the supports of who they know.
