Journal of Rural Development/Nongchon-Gyeongje, 2018, vol. 41, issue 01

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the food consumption behavior of adolescents by the socio-economic factors of households and to analyze the factors affecting the satisfaction of adolescents' eating habits. This paper used raw data of 'Food Consumption Behavior Survey in 2015' conducted by the Korea Rural Economic Institute. In order to analyze the factors affecting the satisfaction of adolescents' eating habits, an ordered probit model was used. The results showed that the factors affecting adolescents' diet satisfaction were age of food purchaser in the household, household income, and the number of household members. In addition, the main food purchaser's interest in health, the regular eating habits, the number of times adolescents did not eat breakfast for a week, and the fruit snack consumption also affected satisfaction. The higher the age of food purchasers, the greater the number of household members, the lower the tendency of the adolescents to be satisfied with their diet and the higher the monthly average income of the households, the more the adolescents were satisfied with their diet.
