Abstract:
The aim of the study was to analyse the spatial diversity of countries in terms of the degree of implementation of the project: “A resource – efficient Europe”, the flagship initiative under Europe 2020 Strategy. In particular, the progress made by countries in this area and the disparities between them were assessed. The study covered the years 2010-2014. It was conducted with the methods of multivariate statistical analysis: a dynamic version of Hellwig’s synthetic variable method and a dynamic measure of the relative taxonomy, proposed by Wydymus. The analysis confirmed the strong differentiation of EU Member States in terms of level of implementation of the flagship initiative. The leader of classification in the whole period of the study was Latvia. The weakest results were achieved by Benelux and Malta. It was noticed that the majority of countries has made significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increase the use of renewable energy. Poland has achieved rather disappointing results. Although Poland has made the progress in all aspects of the study, it was insignificant compared to the achievements of other countries.
