Abstract:
Rural regions of Poland are characterized by higher indicators of poverty than urban areas. Research performed up to now highlights the decrease in the risk of falling into poverty in these areas after Poland’s accession into the EU. Since 2010 the situation in this field has been becoming worse. The aim of this paper was to analysis of changes in the level of poverty in rural regions of Poland after the year 2010. Special attention was devoted to the indicator of extreme poverty whose rising may indicate that the basic needs of the population are not being met. Studies conducted in a number of provinces on the basis of data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS) have shown significant diversity in this field. There were only two provinces within which the extreme poverty indicator decreased in the period following the year 2010.
