No 332914, Conference papers from Purdue University, Center for Global Trade Analysis, Global Trade Analysis Project

Abstract: In less than two decades, the Philippines has emerged as a major exporter of services, particular in information technology business process outsourcing (IT-BPO). A number of factors contributed to the emergence of this sector, including a high level of literacy and human capital, the existence of high quality institutions, and the liberalization of the Philippine telecommunications sector in the early 1990s. We analyze three policy simulations designed to improve the functioning of this sector and enhance its regional competitiveness, by targeting labor and capital productivity in the IT-BPO sector.
