SITUACION ECONOMICA DEL MAIZ EN LA REGION II VALLES ZOQUE, CHIAPAS: JIQUIPILAS Y OCOZOCOAUTLA

Abstract: Corn is one of the foods that is an elementary part of the food and culture of Mexican society. The grain has a multifunctional nature, first, because it contributes to food security, has a relevant economic function due to the demand for inputs that are used in the production process and internal factors that are used in the activity. In the Mexican Republic, the cereal is the main crop in comparison with others such as sorghum, wheat, barley, rice; It is produced in all states at different altitudes, in terms of surface area and volume of production it is located in the first place. The study was conducted in the state of Chiapas, in the socioeconomic region II Valleys Zoque, particularly in the municipalities of Jiquipilas and Ocozocoautla de Espinosa, the methodological instruments used to carry out the present study was the Policy Analysis Matrix (MAP) that has the purpose of responding to the profitability of corn production; the results obtained show that it is still profitable when the cost of renting the land is not considered, and when it is considered in the production costs, losses are obtained, this is due to the growth of the prices of the factors of production, so that it is concluded that corn production is not profitable.
