Abstract:
The main objective of this research was: to identify productive and feeding characteristics with costs in sheep from San Isidro Monterrosa, municipality of Palmar de Bravo, Puebla. It allowed describing the type of production system in that region; thus, the feeding provided in the sheep family production units and their feeding costs by time of the year. A project survey called "Family ranchers and climate change" was used, which included 4 sections, these being: data on the owner of the Family Production Unit (UPF) ovine, characteristics of the production system, characteristics of the type of feeding and costs of forage foods consumed in the production units. Eight UPF sheep (owners) were surveyed in the form of an interview, where their herds were managed in a pastoral, semi-confinement and confinement situation; the data obtained were processed using the SPSS 10.0 package for Windows. This reflects, in the first instance, an atomization of family herds with small populations; since being from family production units (UPF) they do not have zootechnical and veterinary advice, the feeding is of a pastoral type supplemented and compound diets with concentrate for stabled sheep. The outstanding forage foods are: alfalfa, corn stubble, vegetable stubble (cilantro, cauliflower, corn, zucchini, lettuce, broccoli and green tomato). Regarding the production system in the 8 sheep UPF belonging to San Isidro Monterrosa in the Palmar de Bravo region in the state of Puebla, 50% is completely semi-stabled, the stabled represented 25% and the integrated pastoral system the other 25 % of 100% of the production units studied. Finally, they do not keep records to evaluate their production and feeding costs and be able to better understand their expenses and income in their production systems, which is important for a better economic balance of their sheep UPF.
