Agricultura para el desarrollo: el debate en torno al Informe 2008 del Banco Mundial

Abstract: El articulo reviso el debate suscitado en torno al Informe 2008 del Banco Mundial didicado especificamente al tema <>. El Informe ha tenido considerables repercusiones politicas, contribuyendo a situar la atencion a la agricultura en el centro de la agenda de desarrollo internacional, y ha abierto un intenso debate teorico sobre la dinamica de la agricultura en lso apises en desarrollo. El articulo presenta los elementos sentrales del Informe y hace una determinada lectura del debate, centrando el analisis en dos cuestiones: por una parte, la consistencia de los modelos de crecimiento <> propuestos por el Banco para los paises mas desfavorecidos; por otra, el alcance y las posibilidades de las distintas vias de salida de la pobreza que el Informe propne para la poblacion rural. The artice reviews the debate raised by the World Bank Development Report 2008, which was specifically devoted to the issue <>. The Report has had outstanding policy impact, as it contributed to put agriculture in the core of international development agenda, and it opened an intense theoretical debate on the dynamic of agriculture in developing countries. The article introduces the principal elements of the Report, and makes a reading of the debate around two questions: on the one hand, the consistency of growth models <> that the World Bank proposes for less developed countries. On the other hand, it tackles the scope and possibilities of the alternative paths to fight poverty that the Report suggests for rural population.
