Abstract: Excerpts from the report: This report was designed to make available information on current practices and trends in milk marketing at a number of important markets as an aid in the study of marketing margins and costs for fluid milk. Methods of distributing milk have changed nearly everywhere in the United States in recent years. Sales of homogenized milk have Increased sharply while sales of regular milk have declined, dealers’ sales to stores and other outlets have increased while sales on home-delivery routes have declined, paper containers have been displacing glass, and half-gallon and gallon containers have become increasingly popular. People frequently ask for statistics showing what these changes are regionally or nationally, but such figures are not available. The data in this report were developed for the purpose of making available comparisons and trends which have a bearing on marketing margins in selected fluid milk markets.
