Excerpt from the report: This report provides information on major trends and developments in the potato industry and on buyers' preferences and procurement practices. Specifically, the report: (1) Briefly reviews developments in production, utilization, and marketing and their effect on Virginia's competitive position; (2) identifies the characteristics of new potatoes, shipping point services, and sources of supply that buyers prefer; (3) tabulates buyer's opinions of the competitive position of the Virginia potato industry with respect to these factors; and (4) discusses ways buyers believe growers and shippers can improve their marketing practices.
