Farm-Retail Price Spreads for Dairy Products, 1939-66

Robert E. Freeman

No 313575, Marketing Research Reports from United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Marketing Service, Transportation and Marketing Program

Abstract: Excerpt from the report: The principal objective of this study is to explore the fundamental changes in milk production and marketing which underlie the changes in farm and retail prices and in the farm-retail price spreads. Two principal analytical techniques were applied to the data for this purpose. One involved comparing price levels and farm-retail price spreads among the various dairy products. Second, trends over time were compared with the observable changes in the technology of processing and transportation and in distribution through wholesale and retail channels.
