Abstract: Excerpt from the report: This booklet offers an overview of why forests are important and what forest decline is. It describes the symptoms of the recent declines of forests in Europe and the United States and identifies the major types of air pollutants, and outlines suspected links between pollution and forest decline. It also examines the possible causes of declines and describes the role of the Forest Service in studying the problem.
