Stephen W. Martinez

Amber Waves:The Economics of Food, Farming, Natural Resources, and Rural America, 2010, 8

Abstract: Local foods are a growing but small component of U.S. agriculture. Local foods typically refers to foods produced near their point of consumption, but there is no consensus as to what distances constitute local. Other characteristics are also used to define local foods, including production methods, types of producers, and whether the foods are sold directly to consumers or to food distributors.
