Water Carriers and Inland Waterways in Agricultural Transportation

Abstract: Agricultural commerce on inland waterways has experienced rapid growth in recent years. Major inland movements of agricultural commodities are identified. Effects of pricing and seasonality peculiar to agricultural traffic are examined. Factors contributing to growth of agricultural shipments are analyzed. Finally, policy issues which could impact upon the future of agricultural transportation by waterway are discussed.
