Abstract: This paper discusses the economic, technological, and institutional factors which shaped the development of the milk marketing and pricing system, the nature of classified pricing, the determinants of the geographic structure of milk prices, the issue of undue price enhancement by cooperatives, the changing functions of milk marketing cooperatives, and issues ahead in milk pricing.
