Norwegian Nutrition and Food Policy

Marshall Cohen

Food Review/ National Food Review, 1983, vol. NFR 24, issue 01

Abstract: Norway instituted the first comprehensive integrated nutrition, food, and agricultural policy in Western Europe in 1975 to improve diets, increase food production, develop agricultural resources in disadvantaged areas, and promote domestic products. This ambitious pioneer project was partly in response to a resolution affirmed during the World Food Conference in Rome in 1974 that each country formulate integrated food and nutrition plans. In addition, Norway was concerned about alarming increases in serious diseases in that country. According to scientific research, the links between diet and certain medical disorders appeared to be unquestionable.
