Supermarkets React To Warehouse and Box Stores

Charles Handy and Tom Stafford

Food Review/ National Food Review, 1980, vol. NFR 12, issue 01

Abstract: Are prices lower in the new limited- assortment, no-frills food stores than in conventional supermarkets? If so, how do conventional supermarkets react to the new type of competition? These questions were examined in a recent study of Washington, D.C., metropolitan area from September 1979 through May 1980.
