Personal Consumption Expenditures for Food: 1929-1979

Abstract: This marks the 50th consecutive year for the Department of Commerce to report personal consumption expenditures for food, a measure of food spending widely used, but frequently misinterpreted. The purpose of this analysis is to show what the series measures and how it is derived.
