Measuring the Relative Influence of Acreage and Yield Changes on Crop Production

S.M. Sackrin

Journal of Agricultural Economics Research, 1957, vol. 09, issue 4, 4

Abstract: Agricultural economists and others engaged in agricultural research frequently have occasion to analyze the effect of changes in acreage and yield on crop production. This article describes a method of deriving statistical measures that summarize the relative influence of acreage and yield changes, respectively, on year-to-year variation in production. This method is applied to an analysis of several major crops to illustrate how the effect on production of changes in acreage and yield may be evaluated.
