Levels of Living of U.S. Farm Families: Selected Annotated References, 1940-1955

Janet R. Stanton and Robert R. Mount

No 312554, Miscellaneous Publications from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: Excerpts from the Preface: Interest in the levels of living of farm people has increased during recent years. This interest is shown in the publication of numerous reports on the levels of living of farm and nonfarm residents and in the development of techniques used to measure the sociological and economic conditions that affect rural people. Private organizations as well as State and Federal agencies have financed surveys and studies that show trends in rural living. The list of references in this volume was prepared to help current research workers in the study of levels of living of farm families in the United States. It is limited to publications that describe or analyze (1) the content of family living or of levels of living achieved, (2) the measurement of levels of living through indexes or socio-economic scales, (3) farm family-living expenditures, or (4) rural housing and home conveniences.
