Abstract:
Agricultural output in Western Europe continued at a high level in 1970. Grain output declined while livestock production increased. Wheat and milk surpluses were reduced. Western Europe's agricultural imports, including those from the United States, increased. Imports of U.S. protein feeds are likely to increase in 1971. Negotiations between the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, and Ireland and the EC are underway, and the Mansholt plan to improve the structure of EC agriculture is discussed. The United Kingdom is in the process of changing its agricultural price support policy to a variable levy system.
