No 320003, Miscellaneous Publications from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service
Abstract:
Introduction : The Economic Research Service is presently making a study of western agriculture and of changes that are likely to occur by 1975. Three coordinate sectors of the study are: (1) Production capabilities and potentials, (2) consumption estimates, and (3) probable marketing developments and changes. This report discusses factors that are likely to affect significantly the marketing of fruits and vegetables. Later work will deal with marketing other agricultural commodities and, finally, the results will be coordinated with the results in production and consumption to give a unified picture of changes in western agriculture by 1975. Major attention in this report is directed toward conditions where the greatest changes seem likely to occur. This includes changes in uses of fruits and vegetables and new developments in processing, transportation, and other marketing functions.
