Farm Population - Estimates for 1965

Abstract: Excerpts from the report: The population living on farms in the United States numbered about 12,363,000 in April 1965 (table 1). From a statistical standpoint, this figure is not significantly different from the estimate of 12,954,000 for 1964. Among the regions, the South, with 45 percent of the total, has the largest farm population. The North Central Region contains 38 percent, and the Northeast and West have less than 10 percent each. Nearly 1 million farm people of all ages either moved away from farms during 1964-65 or lived on places that were removed from the farm category during the year because agricultural production ceased.
