Health Care in Rural America
Economic Research Service
No 323917, Miscellaneous Publications from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service
Abstract:
The more rural a county the poorer its health care services are likely to be. -- Lower income and sparse population make it more difficult for these counties to compete with metropolitan areas. -- High and rapidly rising costs of modern medical equipment and services increase the disadvantage of rural areas. -- Rural counties have about as many general practitioners as metropolitan counties but fewer other professionals.
