Abstract: This report contains estimates of variable costs of producing major crops in 24 production areas in the North Central region of the United States. Crops include corn, soybeans, oats, grain sorghum, barley, wheat, hay, rye, flax, and cotton. Budgets show the quantity and value of specific preharvest and harvest inputs, total preharvest costs per acre planted, and total variable costs per acre planted. Detailed breakdowns of crop yields and rates of fertilization are also included.
