Seasonality of the Cattle Market

Abstract:
Seasonal changes in supplies and prices of cattle and beef the past several years have generally become less pronounced, but patterns of change have persisted. The seasons affect market supplies of cattle and beef more than they do prices. Seasonal price movements of primal beef cuts appear to be influenced to a large degree by seasonal shifts in consumer preference for different cuts. Factors other than seasonality also contribute significantly to month-to-month variations in supply and prices of cattle and beef.
