Insuring Crop and Livestock Losses Caused by Restricted Pesticide Use: An Appraisal

Lawrence A. Jones

No 324695, Miscellaneous Publications from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: This report examines the feasibility of insuring losses to farmers and ranchers caused by restricted use of crop pesticides and predator poisons. It describes characteristics of such losses and reviews potential problems in establishing an insurance program if the basic principles of insurance are to be followed. Also discussed is the feasibility of utilizing an all-risk insurance program to cover crop and livestock losses that result from pesticide restrictions.
