J. C. Eiland and Theo. F. Moriak

No 324756, Miscellaneous Publications from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: Rice distribution data for the 1971-72 marketing year are summarized from a mail survey of all known rice milling and repackaging firms in the United States. Data from previous such studies are used in making comparisons with other years, particularly 1969-70. Data shown include amounts of rice distributed for direct food use by States, regions, and territories, broken down by size of package, type of grain, and specialty rice. Quantities of rice shipped to processors for use in principal products are shown, as well as trends in domestic distribution and use of rice and their relationship to certain factors. Government distribution to both civilian and military populations is shown. Also, there is related information such as percentage of rice packaged in consumer-sized packages and labeled under another firm's brand name and per centage of enriched rice distributed for direct food use in the United States and territories.
