Crop Yields and Weather

Louis H. Bean

No 333338, Miscellaneous Publications from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: Excerpts from the report: This publication represents the joint interest of the Weather Bureau, the Agricultural Marketing Service, and the Bureau of Agricultural Economics, in promoting extensive research in the relation between weather and crops and in methods of long-range forecasting of weather and crop fluctuations. The weather data that constitute a substantial part of this publication are derived from the official records of the Weather Bureau, the computations having been made by the Agricultural Marketing Service. Material in this publication has been brought together to serve the convenience of all those who have occasion to study or refer to monthly weather data in relation to crop yields per acre. Moreover, it is hoped that the long-time records of monthly rainfall and temperature, by States, published here alongside the annual data on crop yields per acre by States, will stimulate research workers to try their hands at discovering significant characteristics in these weather and crop records, and relationships between them.
