Abstract: Excerpts from the Foreword: Migrations of displaced rural families from the Great Plains and other regions to the Pacific Coast States during recent years has attracted widespread attention because of (1) the volume of the movement and (2) the critical problems of readjustment encountered both by the migrants and by older residents of the areas into which the migrants have gone. The following report deals with settlement on a new irrigation development during recent years. Many conditions found on the Vale and Owyhee projects of eastern Oregon may be expected to be duplicated on future reclamation projects. This report is divided into three major sections: (1) Suggestions for Economic Development of Future Reclamation Areas, (2) Digest of Analysis, and (3) Detailed Analysis of the Vale and Owyhee Projects, Malheur County, Oregon. For those not interested in details or supporting evidence of the generalized statement, the first two sections form a complete unit. The third section gives a more complete statement of the local area description, outlines the method of study, and gives details of the findings.
