Natural Land-Use Areas of the United States

Abstract: This map presents a division of the United States into natural areas based on the physical characteristics of the land influencing it use. There are many exceptions to the general character of these areas in the form of bodies of land too small to be recognized as separate areas. Most of the areas contain some range in characteristics. Climatic conditions in particular have no sharp boundaries. Climate, soil, and surface configuration are the physical characteristics of land used in delimiting the areas.
