Cost of Storing and Handling Cotton at Public Storage Facilities, 1972/73 and 1974/75

Abstract: Report Introduction: The cotton warehouse industry occupies an important position in the present system of marketing American cotton. Beginning in 1962, the Economic Research Service has conducted periodic studies to determine the costs associated with the storing and handling of cotton. Results of these studies have been used by the Commodity Credit Corporation and representatives of the cotton industry in negotiating rates to be paid warehousemen for the storing and handling of Government-owned or controlled cotton. The last study was conducted for the 1972/73 season and the results published in June 1974. The present study covers the costs associated with the 1974/75 season.
