Abstract:
Report Introduction: For each agricultural rate of duty, import tax, and processing tax, this report presents a complete history from September 22, 1922, the effective date of the 1922 Tariff Act, to the end of May 1951, the date of completion of this report. The latest changes in tariffs that became effective during this period were those negotiated at Annecy, France, with 10 countries in October 1949; those that resulted from the termination effective December 11, 1950, of part of the United States concessions in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade which were initially negotiated with China, and those that resulted from the termination effective January 1, 1951 of the Trade Agreement with Mexico. The changes in United States tariffs on agricultural products that were negotiated at Torquay, England, between September 1950 and April 1951 had not become effective by the end of May 1951 and are not included in this report.
