Youth Employment: Rural Problem, Also

Abstract: Excerpts from the article: Consequences of youth employment problems are current, indicated by large numbers of underutilized youth, and may be carried with youth into adulthood. A recent study has concluded that those youth who experience the greatest labor market difficulties are likely to be the same people who experience persistent underemployment later in their working lives. Thus, the employment problems of youth should not be taken lightly. Unemployment rates among youth that are two or three times the rate of the total labor force are unacceptable. Public policy must address the labor market problems of youth. And, of equal importance, these efforts should deal just as aggressively with the problems of rural youth as they treat the problems of urban youth.
