Retirement: A Growing Part of Rural Economies

Abstract: While only a small proportion of the elderly move when they retire, many who do move seek out rural communities with favorable climates and good scenery. These older people bring to rural areas an important ingredient of economic growth—spending power that creates demand for a myriad of retail goods and locally produced goods and services.
