AGRICULTURAL STRUCTURES POLICY IN THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY

Abstract:
The study summarizes and discusses agricultural structural policies enacted by the European Economic Community, the application of Community measures in each member country, and the national measures of each. member country. Although original intentions were to spend a large proportion of the EEC's agricultural budget on farm structure, cost escalations in commodity price support programs, storage costs, and surplus disposal schemes resulted in niggardly Community funding for agricultural structural improvements. While some member countries have a strong viable program of farm restructuring drawing on both national and Community funding (e.g., The Netherlands), others are at a much lower level of activity (e.g., Italy).
