FOREIGN OWNERSHIP OF U.S. AGRICULTURAL LAND THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 1983

J. Peter DeBraal and T. Alexander Majchrowicz

No 277583, Staff Reports from United States Department of Agriculture, Economic Research Service

Abstract: Foreigners owned 13.7 million acres of U.S. agricultural land as of December 31, 1983. This is slightly more than 1 percent of all privately held agricultural land and 0.6 percent of all land in the United States. This share is too small to measure the impact on agriculture at the national level. However, some communities in areas of heaviest concentration could be affected. These findings are based on an analysis of reports submitted in compliance with the Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act of 1978.
