FISCAL EFFECTS OF MINERAL-RELATED INDUSTRY IN MINNESOTA

Wilbur R. Maki

No 14101, Staff Papers from University of Minnesota, Department of Applied Economics

Abstract: Ten mineral-related industries in Minnesota are identified in this report and their economic importance is measured in terms of industry sales, jobs and income originating in the industries and received by various economic units. Less than 50 thousand of the 1.9 million jobs in Minnesota were found in the 10 industries in 1977, but they accounted for $118 million of the $3.3 billion in total tax revenues in the 1975-76 fiscal year. Estimates and forecasts of the fiscal effects of mineral-related industry development in Minnesota are presented for the 1970-2000 period.
