Abstract: Excerpts from the report: The South Grand-Osage River Basin, comprising approximately 10,750 square miles in West-Central Missouri, is a part of the Osage River Basin consisting of a drainage system of 15,300 square miles and originating in Kansas. This area includes all of nine and parts of eighteen counties. In the River Basin Atlas, Principal Land Resource Areas are 112 - Cherokee Prairies, and 116 - Ozark Highland. The population of about 253,000 is generally rural in nature. The objective of this study is to formulate a plan for the cooperative and orderly conservation, development, utilization and management of the water and related land resources in the Basin. When implemented, the plan will help promote local economic growth. Studies were made to determine present and future land use, agricultural output, yields, and employment. Population projections were made and related to the development of water and related land resources for production of food and fiber; rural, municipal and industrial water supply; and water-oriented recreation. Upstream water and related land resource problems were identified, and the need for water resource development was appraised.
