SETTING PRODUCTION GOALS FOR FEDERAL COAL LEASING

Anthony A. Prato

Western Journal of Agricultural Economics, 1982, vol. 07, issue 2, 14

Abstract: National and regional production goals have been established by the Department of Energy as guidance to the Department of the Interior in determining the location and rate of federal coal leasing as well as the determination of leasing targets for individual coal lease sales. This paper discusses the analytical procedures used by the Department of Energy in setting the 1980 biennial coal production goals. The goals are presented and compared to production forecasts obtained from other sources. Implications of these goals for federal coal leasing policies are considered.
