The Impact of British Industrialization at the end of the 19th Century in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile

Abstract: The aim of this article is to study the channels of diffusion of British industrialization in Latin Ame­rican economies, especially the cases of Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, in order to understand the impact of that process on the region's economic growth. The importation of a new means of transportation, the rail­road, the mechanization of production processes and the investment of capital in key sectors, as well as the intervention of the state apparatus, were important factors in the development of the primary export model, which in turn had implications for the industrial development of the countries studied.
