Abstract: Imagine that you are an analyst of the largest company of the second half of the XIX century. One day you get information about the strange invention of Mr.Bell. This mechanism allows you to transfer the human voice over a distance . How would you rate this novelty? As a toy with no practical application or perhaps as the largest innovation of the century with strong commercial potential? How can economic agents predict the development of the industry in a context of uncertainty? This is the first bright illustration the authors start their book with. They believe that the theories of innovation can help to predict the future development of industry and povide the reader with a relevant methodology.The authors show how to identify factors, which influence future development of innovations. Although the book focuses on the US practice, the authors argue that the tools presented are applicable globally.
