Abstract: The article is devoted to one of the possible approaches to the interpretation of the results and perspectives of applied research in social sciences. It aims to identify possible directions of development of applied research in the field of social sciences. The author analyses the most famous studies in psychology, sociology and economics and brings up philosophical and sociological concepts to address this challenge. Based on the research, the author formulates the main directions for applied research and the most probable trends in the development of social sciences. Applied social research will focus on formulation of responses and recommendations for societies in a changing environment of the modern world. In perspective, joint research will be continued not only by scientists from related social spheres, but in a broader interdisciplinary context. The development of Industry 4.0 will enable application of new methods and tools (big data, cloud computing and ‘‘Internet of things’’) not only for collecting data but for analyzing it as well. Commercial companies which hold information about Internet users will be involved in this type of research. Based on the forecast of science and technology impact in the short run the author identifies the anticipated directions of development in the field of economics, sociology and psychology.
