Abstract: This article is focused on the core shared research facilities and unique scientific installations, two types of research infrastructures in the Russian Federation. The article contains excerpts from the report on the research work prepared in 2018 with the financial support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, which was aimed to assess the operation of facilities and installations created in Russian scientific and educational organizations. It continues the series of the author’s publications on the annual monitoring of the mentioned infrastructures. The author uses the data from the facilities and installations reporting for 2017, which was collected through interactive forms available at the webportal http://ckp-rf.ru. The article concludes that in recent years there has been no abrupt positive or negative dynamics in the development of the research infrastructures network. The majority of shared facilities (73 %) and unique installations (74 %) reached and exceeded the average value of actual loading (74.83 % and 79.31 % respectively). The actual loading for the benefit of external users does not yet exceed the fifty percent threshold (36.33 % for shared facilities and 45.31 % for installations), which creates a potential area for growth. The services assortment offered by core shared research facilities meets the demand from their users. In general, the market for these services is formed and is in the saturation stage. The demand for unique scientific installations in 2017 decreased.
