Abstract:
Problems of interrelations of science and religion are reviewed in a historical context. There were some cases of strong confrontation between scientists and ecclesiastical hierarchy, however in general faith and science were usually perceived as parallel societal institutions. Impressive achievements of modern science gradually weakened the influence of religion which still keeps its importance as a historically established phenomenon of world human culture. Religious perception of the world is supported by irrational nature of some human feelings. Recently some aggravation have been arisen by intensions of the Russian orthodox church to penetrate into the state secular system of secondary and higher education. The optimal ways of resolution of the conflict are discussed.
