Abstract: In the article trends and developments in the role of air transport in international passenger communications and international freight logistics for the last two decades are considered. New services rendered to passengers by the world’s leading airlines and international airports are defined. New logistic functions of air transport for attracting international freight traffic are revealed. The state and level of development of the Russian segment of the international air passenger and freight market are specified. The extent of participation of Russia’s air freight carriers in international freight shipping is estimated. The leaders of Russia’s international air passenger and freight market and the problems hindering its further development are defined.
