Abstract:
The article is devoted to the imports of automotive parts (HS code 8708) to Russia in 2001-2020. The key factors that caused the changes in imports of these products are the increase in the serviced passenger car fleet in Russia, as well as passenger car production in the country. The first factor absolutely dominates over the second; it was confirmed by the regression analysis of the data. After a dramatic decline in household incomes in 2014, the demand for both new cars and spare parts for fleet maintenance decreased, with the aging fleet not being followed by an increase in maintenance costs. It requires a revision of the government industrial policy to improve the affordability of imported automotive parts.
